This will surely add to the visual effect and create a more believable final output.

However, in future tutorial we will remove this static background and learn how to shoot our action hero against a green screen, add a background and composition the video file into the scene. The effect is still a little rough, and it’s not so believable due to the static background. If not, the final shockwave output is included in the tutorial project file that can be downloaded here. You can download the shockwave template here if you wish to customise it yourself. We will use a shockwave template that I created in Motion 5 (tutorial about this later). The shockwave will consist of a visual shockwave and a distortion effect that will be applied to the background as the weapon is fired. In this part 2 of the tutorial series on creating a sic fi weapons type effect and muzzle flash we will add a shockwave to our composition. Right click on the Graphics card driver and select Update Driver. In Part 1 we added a basic muzzle flash to our scene. If problem still appears, then try updating the Graphics card drivers from device manager and check if it helps: a) Open run command by pressing Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc (without quotes) and hit Enter.

In this series of two tutorials I will first show you how to create the 3D text, and in the second part we will examine the materials and texturing tools on offer, build up our own texture and save it for later use again in another project. What a great addition, and who knows, maybe in time to come native support for the 3D models may arrive as well. Now Apple in version 5.2.1 have finally added 3D text as a native feature, as well as some texturing and materials tools. Previously people had created some kind of 3D text effect by layering and extruding text but it wasn’t truly 3D and often couldn’t stand up to being spun around or changes in camera angles. Something that at least allowed some basic 3D features such as 3D text. This was pretty neat, but I had always been searching for something native in Motion 5. There is a plugin from called MObject that allowed you to import 3D models from popular 3D editing packages and use them in true 3D space within your Motion 5 scene. One thing that often let it down however was it’s lack of ability to handle 3D objects well. It’s packed full of fantastic features and is a very powerful piece of kit.

I find it great value in the Appstore at $50 USD. It’s their equivalent of say Adobe After Effects.
